Somebody Called Me Prolific (in homage to the dreaded deadline)

Maybe I should have mentioned this, I don't know, a year ago, but my newest book -- NOT IF YOU BREAK UP WITH ME FIRST -- released in June 2024. You can read all about it on my homepage. If you don't follow me on Instagram or Goodreads and this is the first you're hearing about it, I'm real, real sorry. But happy to say it's getting rave reviews, and it can be yours for the ridiculously low price of $10!

More good news, the spin-off -- WHAT IF YOU FALL FOR ME FIRST -- is set to hit shelves in June 2025! Check it out:

Which brings me to the point of this post. A few days ago, someone told me out loud with their mouth, "I didn't know you were such a prolific author." Honestly, I'm not sure that publishing three books in five years truly earns me that label, but I am very flattered. So, thanks for the author upgrade, Jen!

People have also been saying a lot of things lately to do with my book deadline (probably because my response to most opportunities to leave my house for the past couple of months has been, "Sorry, I can't, I'm writing on a deadline.") Mostly, people express sympathy for the pressure I must be under. While I do appreciate the well-wishes, I feel that I should confess a couple of things about being an author and writing on a deadline:

  1. Nothing gets done without a deadline. When I don't have one from my publisher, I generate deadlines for myself in order to keep writing. For example: I must produce pages for my critique group meeting; I promised to send my agent something by the end of the month... If you're an author struggling to get words on paper, may I suggest a deadline?? (In fact, if you are an anybody trying to get ANYTHING done at all, I highly recommend a deadline.)

  2. A deadline--the official kind from a publisher--is AMAZING. It means you have a publisher, that your dreams have literally come true, and that somebody has offered you money to write your story. I am forever grateful for my deadlines.

  3. "Prolific author" is just a really flattering term for a writer who meets a bunch of deadlines. The more deadlines I have, the more stories find their way out of my brain and into the world. I'm really hoping for more deadlines in the near future!

Speaking of deadlines... I really do have one coming up in a few days for WHAT IF YOU FALL FOR ME FIRST. I'd best get to work!
